In 1971, the Recreation Board was formed. The first board members were: Ole Meyers, Joyce and Les Lillies, Betty and Don Latta, Alex Stewart and Rose Dykstra. On January 2nd, 1973, the Recreational Centre was incorporated and was called the Balmoral Recreational Enterprises Incorporated. Since 1973 the Recreational Centre has been upgraded: artificial ice in the curling rink, addition of a two-storey waiting room/ lounge for the curling rink and a skating arena with artificial ice. The kitchen has been remodelled and serves as a restaurant open all year.
The Balmoral Curling Rink was built with money raised by canvassing the community in 1938. Mr. Wally, who was almost seven feet tall, had no trouble convincing people to contribute. This three sheet rink sported a waiting room with a bleacher-type seating area and a kitchen and viewing area upstairs. The tiny kitchen would feed many hungry curlers. There was no running water in those days, so endless trips were made up and down the narrow stairs to get water from the pump-house.
